FAQs

What do new parents usually need as far as support?

Depends on the family. If there are family members, siblings and friends of parents, or other support present, doula services may be limited to newborn care and support. Some families need high level of support because it’s their first child, or they have more than two children already,

What sort of services do you generally provide when working with clients?

Doula services are based around supporting the primary parent and newborn as they transition home and integrate into the home. Often, this will include breastfeeding support and lactation guidance, emotional support for primary parent and newborn, postnatal recovery, supporting the primary parent in maintaining the home (including laundry and chores surrounding newborn support), napping and feeding schedules, in-home nutrition support, sibling integration and support, doctor visits and follow-ups, and so much more. It all depends on the client and desired level of support. See sample schedules here!

Does insurance cover Doula services?

I do not contract with insurance, but I can provide a Superbill (summary of charges, with dates, codes, and service description) which you can submit to your insurance provider for partial or full reimbursement (depending on insurance carrier and plan). Often, doula services are covered by HSA/FSA funds. Talk to your employer about any limitations on HSA/FSA usage for doula services, as I am not familiar with specific plans or coverages.

What if we’re having multiples? Do you provide support?

Yes! It takes a village with multiples, and doula services are pivotal in adjusting to new family members. Multiples generally require a high amount of support in the initial weeks, and often use doula services for a longer duration compared to parents of one newborn. If requesting for multiples, please reach out to discuss availability for high-support cases.

How soon after the birth do you start services?

This is up to the family, and how quickly they feel they need support. We will coordinate and plan together, and make sure we set aside days and times that work best following the birth.

Do you offer overnight services?

This is available on a limited basis, and does have a different hourly price compared to daytime services. New parents who are struggling to sleep can benefit from overnight services so they catch up on sleep while newborn is cared for throughout the night. This is also dependent on client comfort as well.
